The Battle of Who Could Care Less

Should you wish to distract yourself from the depressing prospect of a depleted England lining up 4-5-Crouch on Wednesday night, it's worth taking a look at other games on offer. Admittedly there are some inevitable dead rubbers, this being the end of qualification. An unfortunate consequence of Italy's late winner against Scotland is that France no longer need a result away in snowy Kiev. Miserly France have conceded only 3 goals during qualification, and whilst they've also struggled to find the net injuries to 4 of Ukraine's first choice defensive five may reduce the task they face. Skybet have France win to nil at 3.4 which looks about right. Especially factoring in the element of risk that, for all the press conference bluster about 'wanting to win', this one descends into a battle of who could care less.

Likewise there is nothing riding on Germany-Wales. But Germany have been safe for a while, and after a 0-3 reverse at home to the Czechs they thrashed Cyprus 4-0. An inexperienced Wales team, missing probably their three best players in Koumas, Bale and Bellamy, could well be in for a similar fate. In the build up German striker Miroslav Klose has promised as much, pointing out quite fairly that Cyprus are the slightly stronger of the two opponents. Perhaps because he has played the majority of his career at the unglamorous Kaiserlauten and Werder Bremen, Klose has never been talked up to the extent of some strikers. But I would suggest that Bayern Munich knew what they were doing when they made him one of their trio of big money signings in the summer. As well as eight goals in 11 games for them this season, he's also now Germany's seventh highest scorer of all-time after getting one of the four against Cyprus. William Hill have come out with a typically aggressive quote on anytime goalscorer which I'm happy to endorse bettingzone in taking on.

4 pts Klose to score anytime at 2.25, William Hill.
